Splurge or Save???

So I have a lot of people ask me how much money I spend on makeup…. While I do have a ton of makeup, I know how to make my money work when I buy things! I’m gonna make a list of things I think you should splurge on, and things that you should save you’re money on!

SPLURGE!!!!!!!

1. Primer: Face and eye primer is a must to splurge on! It’s what you START doing your makeup with, so it should definitely be of quality. I’m not saying cheaper products are of lower quality, but when you’re talking about what is supposed to keep your makeup in place you want to be sure they will work!! I SWEAR by Urban Decay’s Primer Potion in Eden for my eyes, and tend to alternate for my face! Right now I’m using benefit The POREfessional… it’s doing really well for my acne prone skin!

2. Foundation: Again… this is the foundation of your face! Foundation… see what they did there?! Hehe. You want this to be good for obvious reasons… makeup meltdown is not the business! I buy more expensive foundation like MAC or MAKE UP FOR EVER because they are high-end and their performance on my face is amazing! Whether you use powder or liquid foundation, just make sure it’s good quality!

3. Concealer: If you need concealer, then it only makes sense to use concealer that is full coverage and is worth taking the time to put it on! Bobbi Brown’s Creamy Concealer has been a lifesaver for me, lately! Also MUFE’s salmon color corrector makes my dark spots totally non-existent! If you want to truly cover your imperfections, you need the perfect concealer.

4. Makeup Brushes: I am a FIRM believer that you can NOT achieve flawless makeup without the right tools. My Sigma Brushes have been a life saver and they’re far less expensive than MAC brushes with the same quality, IMO. I cannot explain the improvement in the quality of my makeup looks since I bought these brushes!

SAVE!!!!!!!!!

1. Eyeshadow: You don’t necessarily have to buy a $50 Naked palette to achieve the perfect neutral look or a Sugarpill Eyeshadow to get a vibrant pop of color. There are a lot of drugstore brands that have awesomely pigmented eyeshadow. If you splurge on a good eyeshadow primer (see above) then your color will automatically appear more vibrant. The trick is finding the brands that do have good pigmentation and aren’t chalky. You can look all over the internet on Makeupalley.com or YouTube to find reviews and tutorials of these types of products! There are options… you just have to find them!

2. Mascara: As much as I love a good name brand I choose to spend it only when necessary. Jeans and purses are meant to last forever… mascara, however is not! The shelf life is too short to spend an insane amount of money on this! YSL and Dior have nice products if you want to treat yourself to it, but they don’t have anything that Revlon, Maybelline, or L’Oreal doesn’t! Mascara is something that’s just not worth spending an excess amount of money on.. there’s just too many good drugstore options to do that!

3. Falsies: I loooooove false eyelashes, and I go through them like I change my undies! Well.. maybe not that fast,  but you know what I mean. lol Although you can clean your lashes and make them work for a little longer, they’re just too disposable to spend over $10 on per pair! Be careful not to go too cheap, though. I would recommend Salon Perfect or NYX… they have awesome variety and they actually look somewhat real.

Okay… so that’s it. I hope I helped you guys figure out what’s worth spending your money on! Anything I didn’t mention is because I’m in-between opinions based on my skin type, love of a brand, or any reasons that I personally have! Buying makeup can get very expensive, so the more you save in some areas the more money you have to spend on other items!

Let me know if I missed anything in the comments below!! Happy makeup shopping!!! 🙂

This article hit home for me, I definitely agree that certain things you cannot skimp on and since I have found the right tools to apply my makeup girl I feel like a MUA in my own right. I did not know any other brand but MAC so I bought their brushes and their shadows and their everything else, but thank God for YOUTUBE and FB and twitters and blogs I have learned sooooooooooo much I feel like I now know where to splurge and where to save. Mascara you are right I buy Maybelline, I had bought the MAC as I turned 40 and I was treating myself but as I watched more videos and learned more I had only purchased the one and only one. I now know about bases and primers and setting my makeup wow I am in love with this thing. Ok I am done, I enjoyed this article. PS I like the bobbi brown concealer will add the MUFE one to my wishlist Christmas is coming lol
